Maj. Robert H. Hunt

Born in Ireland in 1839, Robert H. Hunt was living in Leavenworth, Kansas, when he mustered in as first lieutenant in Company I, 2d Kansas Cavalry. During Price's 1864 invasion of Missouri, Major Hunt was serving as chief paymaster in the Department of Kansas. Maj. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis appointed Hunt an aide de camp on his staff and placed him in command of artillery. Hunt rose in rank to lieutenant colonel during the war. After the war, Hunt returned to Kansas City, serving one year as mayor and a number of years on the Kansas City School Board during the 1870s.
