
Born in Canada in 1839, George Todd moved to Jackson County, Missouri where he worked as a stonemason alongside his father. Todd and his father are credited with building the first Red Bridge over the Big Blue River. During the American Civil War, Todd was one of William C. Quantrill’s lieutenants. Late in the war when Quantrill’s guerrilla band broke into splinter groups, Todd assumed command of one of the groups. Todd was killed in action during the Battle of the Little Blue River. Todd’s grave is in Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
